The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can clean and mop without requiring your attention. It will leave your floors spotless. Its price is affordable and its high-end functions (such as a dirt detector) are positives.

Make sure you regularly inspect your robot cleaner's brushes for tangled hair and large debris and wash them if needed. Certain models also automatically empty the dust bin on board and then deposit it in a larger bin at the bottom. This helps reduce the amount of fine dust that gets released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They are equipped with motors that are top of the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the most powerful model) they employ smart mapping to produce precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also come with a feature called carpet boost that boosts the robot's performance when it spots the presence of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned up quickly.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our bare floor tests, and they're particularly adept at cleaning pet hair. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our top choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.

It's still a great deal for those whose home or office has a lot of unfinished floors and you're looking to save money. It's also very quiet and works while you are at work or school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. And it's less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't stay on for long and don't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you're required to, the mopping pad can be replaced with one that is wet in just a few just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its smart cleaning robot mop and vacuum maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean and effective in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying dustbin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This highly efficient combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to dodge obstacles and pet waste and it will learn the layout of your home over time for more efficient cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and customize zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when in a room with carpet to prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm is great for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire house, finishing with the battery at 66 percent left. It did a good cleaning job on a variety of floors and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, shoes and cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen on other robot vacuum cleaner vacuum/mop combination.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears much like a Roomba model than the bulky units of the rivals. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot is its most advanced and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum reviews vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device which could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you try to sleep.

It's also a bit costly however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing with a bit more noise and a little more cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features that let you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create the floor plan and detect obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium competitors. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time however this was not 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house in accordance with the amount of dirt they are.

If you have a bigger home, it's worth selecting a model with a the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your house needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice command. A stair mode can be useful if you own a large furniture. For busy families, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be very useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would think from its price. It's a pro at vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to set up a spot-clean. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app offers a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can get to corners and under furniture more easily. It also has strong 8000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for hair of pets. It also has the ability to create a spot-clean that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble adorable eyes. It's good at vacuuming but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is a bit louder than the other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
