The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can clean and mop without requiring your attention, and it will leave your floors spotless. Its affordable price and high-end features (such as a dirt detector) are positives.

Examine your robot's brush regularly for tangled debris as well as hair. Wash them when necessary. Some models will also empty the onboard dust bin and place it in a larger bin located at the base. This reduces the amount fine dust that is released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They have motors that are top-of-the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the most powerful model), they use smart mapping to produce precise floorplans that avoid obstacles like furniture leg. They also come with a feature called carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it sees the presence of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet They are also adept in removing hair from dogs. However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a good robot vacuum deal for those whose home or office has a lot of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also very quiet and you can use it while you're at work or at school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. And, if you need to change the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a compact, sleek package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features a self-emptying bin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performing combination autonomous vacuum and mop makes use of advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it learns your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and customize zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average in comparison to other models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when it's in a carpeted area which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be utilized to reach under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete an entire home, and it did so with 66 percent of its battery left. It also did a great job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms that had various flooring types, such as certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it swiftly eluded fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the boxy models of the rivals. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It comes with advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop to score 100% in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's loud that could be an issue if you use it in the morning before work or at night as you attempt to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however it's going to cost you more and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes the care of mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot employs a combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out the floor plan and detect obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive competitors. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the house depending on how dirty those areas are.

If you have a larger home, it's worth selecting a robot that comes with the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your house needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice command. A stairway mode is useful if you have a lot furniture. Additionally the recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It's a pro at vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a reciprocating motion that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tried. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app also grants access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robot vacuums we've tried. It also has an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
