1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive counterpart, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums that we have examined. They have top-of-the-line motors that can produce up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. As with other premium iRobot models (including the top pick) they utilize smart mapping technology to create detailed floor plans that avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also come with carpet boost, a feature that boosts the robot's performance when it detects the presence of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned up quickly.
Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our bare floor tests They're also particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our top choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well during our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of a room.
However, it's a good choice to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also quiet and operates when you're at work or school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you're in need of it mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for a wet one in seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has strong suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets but it's not as good robot vacuum as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.
This top-performing combination vacuum and mop makes use of advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it learns your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.
You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a room with carpet which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm is great to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete the entire house with only 66 percent of its battery left. It also did an excellent job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms that had mixed flooring types, including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was excellent, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.
It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically emptys into its base, and supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
With a sleek, circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competition's boxes this mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive looking models in our reviews. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It features advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).
It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that has a perfect 10 in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.
Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's still quite loud, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to fall asleep.
It's also quite expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that is very efficient however, it's more expensive and make more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum and mop. It has a range of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank and washes and dries its mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and detect obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time however this was not foolproof in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.
The vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home depending on the degree of dirt they tend to be.
For larger houses it's worth looking for models with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house via the app or voice commands. If you have furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. For families with busy schedules, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be very beneficial.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd imagine from its price. It is a good vacuum cleaner and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad that has a reciprocating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's self-sufficient too, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app also grants access to a host of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It features an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean the area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute little eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, however it is more likely to get caught on low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums we have examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as an emptying bin.
