Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade

The process of upgrading an item, often known as "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment provides an increase in linearity of a given stat.

Players can recycle up to six items at a time in order to gain an ability to gauge the level of each of the item's upgraded components. The cost of recycling a piece of equipment increases with their rarity and item level.

Upgrade components

In Guild Wars 2, an upgrade of an item can be a method to boost the stats of your weapon and armor. This can be achieved through many different methods such as using upgrade components and upgrading an item's mark levels or rarity. Many items can also be reforged to increase their value.

There are items that can be upgraded throughout the game. They are available in the world as well as rewards for missions. Players can also craft them. The primary method to upgrade equipment is by making use of upgrade components which are the items that can be inserted into equipment. Most equipment has slots for upgrading and some require a certain amount of upgrade item. Some upgrade components offer specific bonuses, while other components offer general bonuses.

There are many types of upgrade components available in the game, such as universal upgrades, inscriptions and jewels. Universal upgrades, like gems and enchantments, are able to be placed in any kind of equipment and provide smaller bonuses than those that are equipment type specific to the type of equipment. Glyphs can only be placed in gathering tools, and provide various bonuses, from increasing the speed of an item's gathering to providing extra crafting materials.

To upgrade an item, select it in your inventory, then open the Upgrade window. The preview will be displayed on the right side of the screen. It will display the expected stats after the upgrade. The Upgrade button at the bottom will read blocked if you don't have enough of either.

The upper-right side of the screen shows the number of upgrade components needed for the specific item. The cost of upgrading increases with the level and rarity of the item increase. However you can cut down on this cost by purchasing upgrades from a seller, or trading them with other players.

Most weapons can be improved with a prefix, like a rune or an insignia. Other weapons can be upgraded by adding an suffix. These upgrades alter the name of the item, adding an adjective, for example "Radiant" or "Minor Vigor. There are some exceptions, however. the non-inscribable weapons, such as shields and foci from Prophecies and Factions campaigns, that cannot be upgraded using any kinds of mods in any way.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be a powerful instrument for communicating visual information. They move to grab the viewer's eye and spark curiosity. The animation of glyphs resembles the body language and makes them more effective in communicating the message of a language barrier. Glyphs can also trigger a feeling of familiarity in the brain, which increases retention of the message.

Each glyph can increase a stat's value by a specific amount. This is displayed on the item when you open it in the Glyph Storage. This is not the actual amount at which the glyph will increase a stat, but the maximum amount by which it can increase a stat. The value of the glyph depends on the tier as well as the quality of the item that you are admiring.

The majority of upgrade components added to items cannot be removed or replaced without removing them, with the exception of legendary equipment and upgrades. If you have a rune or glyph you don't want to use, but it hasn't been incorporated to gear yet, you can transfer the item to another piece by selecting the Upgrade Glyphs menu in the Glyphs Panel. This will create an Glyph Set that includes the chosen glyph.

You can remove a glyph by using a Black Lion Salvage Kit, or an Ascended Salvage tool. This will destroy the item in which it is installed, but you can recover the upgraded item by using the glyph and its fragments, therefore, it shouldn't be considered as a loss.

When you remove an item after putting a glyph on it, the shards that are part of that glyph will disappear. You can also add a glyph on your equipment to provide an additional benefit. Deferred Damage, for example, can store damage and then be dealt slowly to the wearer instead of all at once. This is useful for those who take a lot damage from their enemies but do not want to be overwhelmed.

Reroll tokens

Reroll tokens can be used to alter the affixes on equipment and weapons. They can be obtained from a variety of sources, such as mystery boxes and rare drops from skulled monsters or by killing bosses. Each reroll token gives players a new random affix that is usually better than the original one. Reroll tokens can be used to boost the weapon's stats to increase damage or bonuses.

Rerolled items do not appear in the menu of item upgrades, but they can still be upgraded. Rerolled items can be recycled by pressing the "upgrade" button that alters the layout of the item window and allows up to six items to be selected to recycle. The level gauge is boosted by recycling an item. This amount is determined based on the item upgrading's rarity and its level. Therefore, items that are higher level are more valuable to recycle than lower-leveled ones.

Players can also make use of Reroll Tokens and Star Remnants to reroll weapons to upgrade units. Rerolls will roll a % chance for a weapon's trait. If it rolls higher, the weapon is upgraded. If it rolls lower the weapon is left as it was. Weapons can be rerolled up to three times.

A reroll is a good option for upgrading an item, but players must be aware that it can lower the overall ilvl of the weapon by the number of rerolls required to raise the weapon to its ultimate ilvl. This is evident on Rings and Diadems because they are the only options to increase the ilvl.

The system of rerolls has been criticised by players for being expensive and it's more equitable to let players pay for it in the form of money or food items which would allow players to modify their builds without a lot of time and effort. However paying for rerolls is not something the developers are planning to incorporate at this point in the game's development. They are planning to add a potion that will allow players to alter their race in the near future.

Leveling

There are a variety of ways to upgrade an item. The first is to increase the upgrade amount which boosts the value of upgrading any stat. The second is to increase the upgrade items effect, which increases the healing or damage of a particular stat. The base item can be upgraded to an advanced upgrade type. The new item level upgrade will retain its iLevel, but have the upgraded effects of the upgraded item.

It is important to remember that upgrades are random. In most cases a better roll is determined by glyphs. However there are occasions when a more or unique roll can occur. The item type will also determine the iLevel. If you upgrade a unique or rare item to a specific item type, then it is likely to getting an upper level.

Upgrades to items can be costly especially when you're upgrading a piece of equipment from a standard to legendary track. The cost of upgrading a piece of equipment will depend on its base iLevel as well as the amount of upgrade levels. Certain upgrade tracks require crests in order to get to the next level.

If you're lucky, your upgraded item may reach the maximum level on its upgrade track, and thus unlock an additional effect. This will result in a significant boost in the upgrade value of the item. The bonus effect can change with each upgrade level, though. In general, the effect of upgrading is increased a value of +3.

Based on the item's base level and upgrade path, the iLevel of the upgraded item will change too. For instance, an item that is upgraded from being a rare or unique item to an outstanding one is likely to gain the Enhanced Defence of the new base item.
