World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item upgrading. Based on the type of upgrade it can increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.

Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a specific amount.

Item Level

When an item gets upgraded, its base stats increase in value. The value is the sum of all the leveled up perks (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be expensive dependent on who you employ and what you do. This is due to the variety of perks that must be altered to upgrade an item.

The level of an item is a widely used measurement of power and can be found on all tooltips for items. It also serves as a gating requirement when queueing for dungeons, scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is limited to the lower levels). The average item level can be found in the character sheet.

The level of an item will allow players to compare the strength of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's a sign of the damage and its quality. The level of the item can be used to compare items when examining a vendor's inventory.

The level of the item can be checked by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the complete description of the item, as well as its level. It can also be located by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are a variety of theories on the method by which the level of an item is calculated. One theory is that the level is a number that comes from a formula that calculates the value of an item's stats are worth. It is based on the fact that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in the sockets increase the item's value. This could result in a calculated item's ilvl that is usually very close to Blizzards actual level of the item.

However, this is not the only factor which determines the ilvl of an item, since the level of the region the item was dropped in could change the value of its stats, such as by adding an additional level to its crit rating or haste rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have higher the ilvl than items from lower level instances.

Item Stats

Stats on an item are a significant component of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game uses them in various ways to encourage players not to limit themselves to a single weapon, and to encourage players to explore other weapons. The stats of a base weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat modifications that are in turn increased by the player's skill.

Item upgrades add to that by increasing certain stats on the item. The rarity of an Best item upgrade determines its upgrade cost. A white or grey item upgrading, for example, will only be upgraded once, while an item with rare tiers may be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.

Affixes are another way to change an item's stats. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes can be used to provide items with extra damage or special capabilities (such as revitalizing dead or reducing cooling downs) or to differentiate them by naming them.

Currently, all affixes can be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button with circling arrows. This procedure will cost the player a specific amount of gold as well as items which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as the other options for rerolling.

In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can select which stats to be kept on an item after it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges for an item are determined by the level of the item, however all items are guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within the range, unless it's an item that is unique or a God roll from a boss of a raid.

This is another thing that could be changed by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes or choosing which stats to enhance. But as with base equipment, this would need to be carried out on a per-item level, and the interface for comparing items would not display all the possible stats that were gained or lost at the same time.

Item Luck

A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the odds of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops, and the intensity of those properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players an opportunity to get better gear earlier in the game. This is especially useful for early game runs, since players tend to prioritize defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chance of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading, which increases with each level and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the type of material) for a further +40 luck, or to increase the luck of the item to 140.

Certain items, such as the Hollow-infused weapon can also be crafted to increase the damage dealt by any skill that causes damage by 5%. These items can be bought at the store, or they can be made using the correct ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items are a costly process and not all upgrades will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chances of success for an upgrade or to stop players from losing their items if it is not successful.

The rate of success of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limitations on the extent to which the success rates can be improved, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing cannot exceed 100%.

The Luck of an item can also influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. Every item has a success rate of 25 percent, and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.

Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the inventory items which means that enchantment glints and other effects may be masked by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
