WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boost in specific statistics. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by +3. Each upgrade also boosts the random substatus.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless it has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as valuable for those with higher variance due to the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be made on any kind of armor or weapons. However, the item used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to Enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities and is accessible at any time to upgrade your gear. It is recommended to visit the upgrader every few weeks to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item, but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment. For example, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points purchasing a similar piece from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for tools, armor, weapon and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from item upgraders NPCs in a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will display a preview of an item's next upgrade level in the event that there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the slot of the item and current item level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers for instance. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Upgraders for items are available in many places on the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases according to the number of items being upgraded. It can also be boosted by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an Item Level Upgrade upgrader at the start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are only accessible via a variety of ways. This is both a benefit and an issue.

In Season 3 the upgrade item system has been altered a bit, with some new features added. When a player has an upgrade item to a certain item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less even when they are part of a different gear set.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is reduced also, but is only available when certain milestones are reached.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a few choices. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

First, you must be aware that Crests are only available to equipment that is with a certain rank. Each rank has a different upgrade path. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, based on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by completing content of the appropriate level, which means walking around and doing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of all difficulty for items of higher tier or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for gear that is used in the endgame. These crests can be exchanged with an upgrader for the item upgrade like Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item upgrades in the proper steps and pathways.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, but it brings some changes to the upgrade process. For instance, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to get their equipment to the highest level possible on all their characters, rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they only have one use. It's best to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear you can locate, and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is especially relevant for rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character which will only be able to avail the account-wide discount when all of the slots are filled with top-quality gear.
