Upgrades can boost the value of weapons, armors and rings. They also increase bonuses like PvE damage and crit chance.

For instance an item with the upgrade template that is ending in % will gain 3% attack damage every time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).

Components

Upgrade components can be added to weapons, armor and trinkets to give them a stat boost or to add an additional effect. They can be obtained by crafting, buying from vendors trading, or looting. Certain upgrades have unique cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can only be applied to equipment that has a slot. The item must be at least upgraded to a blue level before the component can be used. Upgrade components, unlike other mods can only be applied once. They cannot be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and enrichments are a special type of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet ascended or legendary equipment and some of the back items that are not ascending. Infusions and enrichments are recovered by salvaging ascended gear or by completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

A suffix or prefix can be added to an upgrade, which alters the name of the item it is used on (for example 'Canthan Armor Insignia',' changes to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost the Mark Level or Rarity, which allows players to create stronger versions of that equipment with the smallest amount of Upgrade Crystals than would be required to reach the same upgrade level through normal methods.

A boost upgrade can change the attack or defence characteristics of the weapon or armor. Once the player has completed the cutscene and defeated Crazed Mechanist the upgrades can be created at the Portative Forging Station. These upgrades are available for purchase them in the cash shop or collecting them from enemies when upgrading other equipment.

The player is able to have up to five boost upgrades at a time. Each upgrade increases the likelihood that a higher-tier version of the item will be available at the time of the next reset. This gives players a reason to upgrade their gear even in the event that they don't know how much it can be improved upon the reset.

If a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process could be costly, and there is a high chance that the item could be obsolete or even break when it fails. A failed upgrade will destroy the Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder as well as the upgraded item. This is reduced by the availability of cash shop items to double or even eliminate the chance of failure, and a few upgrades that give an additional benefit when they are inserted into an item.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to enhance the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets with special functions. Most of the upgrades in the game can be replaced but Glyphs are the only upgrade component that can be removed and re-placed without restriction. The only exception is legendary equipment, which requires the use of a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and replace.

Each Glyph has a particular range of values it can improve a stat by. The value is shown when you select the Glyph in your inventory. You can replace it with a Glyph that is of the same or higher rank to increase the value of the Glyph.

Glyphs can be found in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of a Gem Store bundle or purchase, with certain unlimited-use tools, and during Faction Crypt Raids. Every Faction Crypt could drop one of these Glyphs. There are some rare glyphs which you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.

After you have acquired the desired Glyphs you'll require them to be put on your equipment. Each Glyph will unlock a unique bonus that can boost the stats of a specific set of nodes within a radius around the Glyph. This will either be +40 for one of your primary stats or +25 for two of your secondary stats based on the Glyph.

Glyphs boost all nodes connected to them, so it is Best item upgrade to place Glyphs in strategic locations on the Graph. This will maximize the impact. Druids for instance, should place their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They may also want to consider placing them near their primary damage nodes.

Leveling

Each upgradeable item has an amount that determines its upgraded stats. Upgraded items are able to be leveled until they reach a maximum level of ilvl 385. These recipes can be bought from NPCs, or on the upgrade tab of a crafting table. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed yields a certain number of Technology points. These points can be used to level the item, and once enough points have been earned, the upgrade can be claimed and its additional bonuses will be added to the item.

When an individual player upgrade a piece of equipment the original item will be replaced with an item that is new. The same armor will be upgraded to the form of a weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item will have a unique bonus. This could be a drawback, as the item can increase in price even if you do not require it.

Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled, if the player has enough reroll tokens in order to do this. The item will be replaced by the same item, but it has a level 1 basis and completely different bonuses. This is useful for some items, but it's not something that should be repeated often, as it can use up many resources.

Certain upgrades can increase their value and allow players to personalize their gear. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, since it grants an increase in power if the player continuously enters or leaves the water. This item can be upgraded multiple times by increasing the maximum roll every time by 10 increments. This item is extremely valuable in PvP. A well-rolled version can be worth up to 50x the value of its unupgraded counterpart.

Requirements

Upgrades to armor set pieces also boost the defense base of that piece, while upgrading weapon equipment will increase the damage base and the strength and dexterity required to meet the upgraded equipment's requirements.

Each item can be upgraded a maximum of five times, with the exception of hero gear which can have eight upgrades. Each when you upgrade an item it has the chance to fail. The failure rate increases the farther you exceed the maximum number of upgrades. Failures will cause the item upgrader mod to go back to its original condition, which requires the user to pay more for materials than they would had they stopped upgrading at the maximum amount of upgrades.

If an item does not upgrade, the amount of accumulated experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. In addition, the item will lose any bonuses it gained such as crit chance and attack damage, as well as all additional effects associated with that effect (for example, increased heal over time or the speed of reloading). If an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied in order from the lowest to the highest.
