It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. And, if you need to change the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its smart cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean and effective in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. 3. IRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy models from the competition. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's also the only robot automatic vacuum cleaner/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The only issue is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This could be a problem in the mornings before work or in the evening when you are trying to fall asleep.

It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the auto vacuum and mop's dustbin, refills its water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home based on how dirty those areas tend to be.

For larger homes it's recommended to choose a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your home via the app or via voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair-mode is also a good option. Additionally the recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.

The RX3 is more advanced than its price would suggest. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying base that is washable.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance.
