1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They have motors that are top-of-the quality and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the most powerful model) they utilize smart mapping to create detailed floorplans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots also have Carpet Boost, a feature that increases its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on bare floors They are also adept at cleaning hair from dogs. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to get caught up in shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.
Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and can work when you're at work or school. The only thing it doesn't have that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle however. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few minutes.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can also sweep floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and effective at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with an impressive suction system and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

You can alter its cleaning schedule and set up zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average compared to other models.
You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a room with carpet, which helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm can be utilized to reach under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could sweep the entire house with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a great cleaning job on a variety of floors and rooms with different flooring types including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was great, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles cables.
It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums it, something we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combinations.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
With an elegant circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba rather than the boxy units this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).
It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored a perfect 10 in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station, and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's still quite a noisy unit that could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.
It's also a bit costly but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however, it's more expensive and produce more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.
The vacuum cleaner comes with an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on how dirty these areas tend to be.
For larger homes it's worth looking for one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one specific area of your home via the app or voice commands. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have lot furniture. Finally the recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum reviews vacuum pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you might expect from its price tag. It vacuums well and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad that has an oscillating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying washable base.
The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or set up an automatic vacuum and mop spot-clean. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app offers a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and underneath furniture more easily. It has an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean the area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it's more likely to be stuck on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has an app that is less intuitive, and a smaller base station that does not double as a bin to empty.
