Top Rated Robot Vacuums

A robot vacuum will keep floors clean enough to decrease the frequency you have to manually vacuum. Find one that has good navigation, can sweep corners and stairs and has a huge dust bin that needs emptying only once in a while.

There are models that mop and charge themselves, which is a feature important for families with pets or children. The top performers in our tests offer decent obstacle-avoiding capabilities.

1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO is similar to its sibling i3 EVO. They differ only in the fact that the i3+ comes with self-emptying capabilities. This makes the i3+ an excellent option for those looking for an automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but aren't afraid of taking the time to empty their best cheap robot vacuum's trash bin when it is full.

Both robots do well picking up surface debris on carpets and hard floors and they're very adept at maneuvering around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart map of your home to aid the i3+ in its navigation and clean efficiently. The i3+ doesn't feature obstacle avoidance features like the i7+ or other top rated robot vacuum-rated robots that we tested. It may be stuck on power cords or socks and have trouble moving between surfaces, such as hardwood and rug.

iRobot recommends you clear out areas that the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, including putting away any toys or clutter it may encounter. Also, keep the dustbin and filter free of dirt to prevent them from becoming clogged. When the i3+'s internal bin is full or the battery is depleted, it returns to its docking station and automatically emptying its debris into the station's dust bin and continues cleaning where it left off. The battery's lifespan is around an hour and a half of continuous usage. It takes about three hours to charge.

2. Roomba from iRobot

The iRobot i7+ is an excellent model from iRobot's flagship line and is packed with the most recent features. It's self-charging, self-navigating and the most crucial feature of all -- it has self-emptying bins that eliminate one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba I7+ is able to make rooms more efficient maps using Imprint Smart Mapping. It also works with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and you can control your robot via the app or via voice.

In our testing the i7+ was more agile and faster than our second-placed model which was the eufy RoboVac G30, and it took large pieces of pet hair from all surfaces types, including carpeting. Its biggest advantage over the eufy the dust bin is self-emptying which eliminates a major source of maintenance and cuts down on the cost of maintenance.

We were also amazed by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services, which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning session and to move around the room, and even vacuum a specific space. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. Once connected, to speak commands to the i7+ for example "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options to manage i7+ settings and evaluating performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world filled with cordless vacs that are like minivans and buses, this tiny Dyson model is an automobile. It's powerful and has features to replace a stand-up vacuum in the majority of households and can fit in well next to the coffee table or the bookshelf, where you can move it around like a magic device.

The V10 is powered by a seven-cell, high-energy lithium-ion battery that can provide continuous, non-fading power for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filter system captures allergens and expels cleaner air back into your home. The specially designed head utilizes stiff nylon bristles to penetrate into carpets and collect large particles or fine dust. It comes with three suction settings to match the task being performed. It quickly switches from floor vac to handheld vacuum and back.

This model also has docks that charge to 100% in about 3.5 hours, and gives users an easy access to two attachments as well as a wand clip. This is a significant improvement over older Dysons, that require a long charge and are a pain to store.

The main issue with the V10 is its short running time. The claims of its marketing that it can provide up to 60 minutes of running time are a bit misleading as CR's tests show. This is a typical, not exceptional, battery-powered vacuum's run time. It's enough time to clean the typical home, but not enough to reach every spot. (A second run usually works). This model has its own advantages however: it's light and more maneuverable than older Dysons cordless models and its ability to vacuum is significantly better on low-pile floor carpet.

4. iRobot Roomba 694"

The 694 is a basic robot vacuum that's an excellent choice for those who don't have a lot of money to spend on a robot. It was able to pick up most types of debris in our tests and would often go over the same area many times to give a thorough clean. The flat front of the unit allows it reach into corners and along the edges of walls and walls, which is a nice feature.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt to stay clear of obstacles and navigate your home, but it isn't equipped with the ability to map that comes with more sophisticated models such as our top picks and the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. It may get stuck on phone cords or furniture and will often run out of power before returning to its base.

The Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum Cleaner Industrial vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in all aspects in that it has fewer parts that need regular cleaning and is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, has lower costs for recurring maintenance, has more advanced automation capabilities and is more efficient in maneuvering itself. It also has a larger dustbin and is charged faster.

The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery longevity than the Roomba 694. It also comes with physical boundaries strips that can be controlled by the voice assistant on your smartphone. It's also more robust, has a larger motor, and can perform better on low-pile and bare floors.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a name is found on all kinds of home electronics So it's no surprise that they're one of the top robot vacuum and mop manufacturers. Jet Bot AI+ has the most advanced onboard technology to navigate and avoid obstacles.

The app gives you plenty of options to personalize your robotic vacuums cleaner, such as virtual barriers mopping water levels, behavior adjustments docking frequency settings and much more. The app is simple to learn and use similar to other Samsung devices.

In our testing of the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors and handled dog hair (on carpet) quite well, cleaning up 86 percent of it. It did not do well in avoiding taller items such as cords or socks. This was disappointing. It's priced higher than other models we've tested and this could be a deterrent for some buyers.

The app allows you to access the onboard camera of the smart vacuum. You can also set up live streaming from the robot's area of cleaning. This feature lets you to check in on your pets or children while you're away. The dustbin and the filter can be washed for an easy, quick clean-up. The Jet Bot AI+ comes with a self-emptying clean station, which helps keep the bin clean and maximizes suction power.

6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum

Black and Decker robots are designed specifically for hard flooring. They feature an extra-wide cleaning path and a larger dustbin that holds twice as much debris than other models to keep the area clean for the longest time. Plus, they include two side sweepers that clean around edges and corners. The POWERSERIES Extreme model also includes AutoSense technology, which senses the presence of dirt on surfaces or embedded dirt and automatically adjusts its power level. It also has a smart app that lets you see the virtual map, and control functions and schedules. You can also monitor the battery's status and then return it to its dock to charge at the touch of a button. The app lets you alter the LED lights on the top of the vacuum so that you can tell where it is focused or if it's stuck.

The app makes it possible to manually steer the robot, if necessary. My living room rug for example has a dark-colored border that can trip up some other robots. However, the HRV 425BL continued to move across the border, but it didn't register it as a cliff. The ability to program a cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving convenience.
