Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric statistics on armor, weapons and rings. They also boost extra bonuses such as damage from PvE and crit chance.

If the weapon's upgrade template ends in %, it will gain an additional 3% of the previous damage for every time it is upgraded.

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item upgrader mod's level. The cost increases as the item level rises.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be inserted into armor, weapons, and trinkets in order to provide an additional stat boost or effect while they're in use. They can be obtained through crafting, purchasing from vendors or trading with other players or looting. Certain upgrades come with special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be placed in equipment that has a slot to accommodate them. The item must be at a minimum upgraded to blue level for a component to be used. Upgrade components, unlike other modifications, can only be applied once. They are not able to be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and enrichments are a type of upgrade component used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or ascending equipment, as in some items that aren't ascended. Infusions and enrichments can be recovered by salvaging gear from the ascended, or completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade can include a suffix or prefix, modifying the name of the equipment with the upgrade item (sneak a peek here) (for instance 'Canthan Armor Insignia is changed to Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost the Mark Level or Rarity, allowing players create stronger versions of that equipment using fewer Upgrade Crystals than are required to reach the same upgrade level through normal methods.

A boost upgrade can change the attack or defence attributes of an armored weapon or. Once the player has completed the cutscene and defeated Crazed Mechanist, these upgrades can be crafted at the Portative Forging Station. They can be dropped by enemies while upgrading other gear or buying them in the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals per.

In the endgame you'll find that the best way to enhance your equipment is to use Glyphs. They are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded straight to level 15 and offer a large boost to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to get higher nodes faster.

Most of the upgrades in the game can be replaced, but Glyphs are the only upgrade component that can be removed and put back in place without restrictions. The only exception is legendary equipment that requires the use of a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and then re-install.

Each Glyph has a certain range of values that it can improve a statistic by. The value is displayed when you choose the Glyph in your inventory. You can decide to replace it with a different Glyph with the same rank or a higher rank, which will boost the overall value of the Glyph.

You can find Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of a Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain tools for gathering unlimited use, and through Faction Crypt raids. Each Faction Crypt could drop one of these Glyphs. There are some rare glyphs that you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.

Once you have obtained the desired Glyphs then you need to place them on your equipment. Each Glyph unlocks a unique bonus that will boost a particular set of stat nodes within a radius around the Glyph. Depending on the Glyph, this will either be +40 to one of your primary stats, or +25 to two of your secondary stats.

Glyphs boost all nodes that are connected to them, therefore it is recommended to place Glyphs in strategic locations on the Graph. This will maximize the impact. For example, a Druid should aim to place their Glyphs near their primary damage nodes but also be sure to place them near the most critical damage nodes too.

Leveling

The item upgrading system lets players increase the stats of specific items by putting upgraded components in them. This is often referred to as "upping". Each upgradeable item is assigned a level which determines the final statistics. Upgraded items can be upgraded up to a maximum of ilvl 385. Each item level requires different components, and upgrade costs increase with each level.

Some upgrades require a special ingredient to activate. This ingredient is obtained by making Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be found in the upgrade tab of a crafting table, or obtained from NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed results in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used to level the item, and when enough points have been earned, the upgrade will be claimed and its additional bonuses will be added to the item.

When the player upgrade an item it will be replaced with a new item. The same armor will be upgraded to the form of a weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item will have its own set bonus. This could be a drawback in that it could make the item more expensive if you don't require it.

If the player has enough tokens, they can roll the upgrade of their item. The item will be replaced with the same item, but it has a base of level 1 and totally different bonuses. This can be useful but it should not be repeated often since it can be a waste of resources.

Some upgrades can increase their value, allowing players to customize their equipment. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, as it gives buffs when the player is repeatedly in or leaves the water.
