Upgrades boost the value of certain numeric statistics on armor, weapons and rings. They also increase bonuses, such as PvE damage and crit chance.

Components

Upgrade components can be incorporated into trinkets, armor, and weapons in order to give them a boost in stats or add a bonus effect. These can be obtained by making crafts, buying from vendors, trading with other players or looting. Some upgrades have special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into any equipment that has a slot to accommodate them; the item must be at least upgraded to the blue level in order for the component to be used. Unlike other mods, upgrade components can only be used once; they cannot be applied repeatedly or replaced with upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a kind of upgrade component that can be used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or ascended equipment, as well in some items that aren't ascended. Infusions and enrichments can be obtained by salvaging ascended equipment or completing a quest in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

They can also be dropped by enemies when upgrading other gear or purchasing them from the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals each.

Each upgrade increases the probability that a higher-tier version of an item will be dropped at the next reset. This gives the player an incentive to continue upgrading their gear, even if they're unsure of how much it will increase after a future reset.

The boost upgrade may be successful or not, the process can be costly and there is a significant risk that the item may become obsolete or even break when it fails. Glyphs will boost all nodes that are connected to them, which is why it is recommended to place Glyphs in strategic spots on the Graph. This will maximize the impact. Leveling

The item upgrade system allows players to increase the power of certain items by adding upgraded components. This is commonly known as "upping". Each upgradeable item is assigned a level which determines the final statistics. Upgraded items can be leveled up to a maximum level of 385. Each item level requires different components, and the cost of upgrading increase with each level.

Some upgrades require a special ingredient to activate. This ingredient can be obtained by completing Upgrade Recipes.
