WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boosts in specific statistics. Each upgrade increases item level by +3. Each upgrade also boosts a random substat.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless it has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are less valuable for those with higher variance due to the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any kind of armor or weapons. The item used to upgrade the Item level upgrade is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities, and can be visited anytime to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear current, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

The cost of upgrading will be based on the current level of the equipment being upgraded, but will always be less expensive than purchasing new gear from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items that can be used to level up weapons tools, armor, and other accessories. They can be purchased from item upgrade upgraders NPCs for various currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any tool, weapon or armor. The button will show the item's next level of upgrade, if there are enough materials.

The upgrade items cost depends on the slot of the item and the current item level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers, for instance. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currency types.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items which include the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and the possibility of obtaining a new recipe. The discount on upgrades increases with the number of items that are being upgraded. It can also be boosted by requiring players to complete specific achievements or quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no upgrader for items available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades are acquired via several methods which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3, a number of new features were added to the upgrade system. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a certain item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading further items to the same level will cost less even if they belong to another set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is reduced also, but is only available once certain milestones are reached.

Crests

Players have a variety of choices when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are a crucial element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

First, you must be aware that Crests are only available to equipment with a certain rank. Each rank comes with an upgrade path that is different. The simplest and easiest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade can require up to 20 crests, based on the type or equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons with all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for endgame gear. These crests can then be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

Using these new currencies isn't too difficult however, the system introduces some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, when an item reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change lets players upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests only have one use, so it's important to use them properly. It is recommended to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the Best item upgrader gear that you can find, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is especially true for items like trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character, which will only be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount when all slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
