iRobot recommends that you tidy the area in which the i3+ EVO vacuums before using it. This includes getting rid of any toys or other clutter it might come across. If the i3+'s internal bin is empty or the battery is low it returns to the docking station and empties the dirt into the station's external dustbin. Then it continues cleaning where it left off. In our testing, the i7+ was more agile and faster than our second-placed model and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it picked up large pieces of pet hair from all surfaces types, including carpeting. The biggest benefit over the eufy, though, is its self-emptying dustbin that eliminates a major cause of maintenance and lowers recurring costs.

We were also impressed with the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot to start, stop, or pause cleaning sessions as well as move around the room and to vacuum a particular area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ to these services. After connecting to these services, we were able use the i7+'s voice commands such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s preferences and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world filled with cordless vacs that are like minivans and buses, this tiny Dyson model is a sports car. It's powerful enough to replace a traditional stand-up vacuum in the majority of homes, but also small enough to fit on a bookcase or coffee table.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell energy-dense lithium-ion battery which produces continuous, non-fading power for 60 minutes. The sophisticated whole-machine filter system captures allergens, and then lets cleaner air into your home. It was able to pick up all kinds of debris in our tests and would often go over the same area several times to give an extensive clean. Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt technology to steer clear of obstacles and navigate your home. It's not equipped with the mapping capabilities of more advanced models, like our top picks, i3+EVO and J7+ Series.
