Upgrades can boost the value of certain numeric stats on armor, weapons and rings. Upgrades also boost bonuses like crit chance and PvE Damage.

Components

An upgrade can include a suffix or prefix that alters the name of the equipment with which it is used (for instancethe "Canthan Armor Insignia" becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase the Mark Level or Rarity of an item, which lets players create stronger versions with the smallest amount of Upgrade crystals than they would need to reach the same level using standard methods.

A 'boost' upgrade can change the attack or defence attributes of a weapon, or armor. Once the player has completed the cutscene and defeated Crazed Mechanist, these upgrades can be made at the Portative Forging Station. These upgrades are available for purchase them from the cash shop or collecting them from enemies when upgrading other gear.

The player is able to have up to five boost upgrades at a time. Each upgrade increases the probability that a higher-tier version of the Item Upgrader Kit will be available in the next reset. This gives the player some incentive to continue improving their equipment, even if they're unsure of the extent to which it will improve after a future reset.

The process of upgrading an item can be costly and it is likely that the item will become obsolete, or even break, when the upgrade is unsuccessful. Upgrade Crystals and assist powders are also destroyed if the upgrade fails. Cash shop items can be used to decrease or eliminate the risk of failure. Some upgrades also offer an additional bonus when they are reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs are upgrade components that can be inserted into special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs boost the power of nodes within a radius, including any existing affixes. Glyphs can be upgraded in many ways, and we recommend getting them up to level 15 whenever you can.

In the final game you'll find that the Best item upgrader way to enhance your gear is to place Glyphs. They are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded directly to level 15, and they provide a large boost to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to climb higher nodes faster.

Glyphs, the sole upgrade component which can be removed without restriction and then replaced with no restrictions, are the most common. The only exception is legendary equipment that requires the use of a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and re-place.

Each Glyph has a particular range of values can enhance a stat by, and the value is displayed when you select the Glyph in your inventory. You can replace it with a Glyph with the same rank or a higher rank, which will increase the value of the Glyph.

When an item is upgraded by a player to a higher level, the original item is replaced with a new item of the same kind. The same armor will receive an weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item will have its own set bonus. This could be a drawback, as the item can become more expensive even if you don't need it.

If the player has enough tokens, they can reroll item upgrades. The item will be replaced by the same item, but it has a base of level 1 and completely different bonuses. This is useful for certain items, but it's not something that should be repeated often, as it can use up many resources.

Some upgrades can be rerolled multiple times which increases their value and allowing the player to customize their equipment. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, as it provides an increase in power if the player is repeatedly in or leaves the water. It is possible to upgrade it several times, each time raising the max roll by an increment of 10. This item can be extremely useful in PvP battles, since an item that is properly rolled it can be worth between 20 and 50 times its value without being upgraded.

Requirements

If an item isn't upgraded the experience bar in the bar for growth will be reset to zero. In addition the item will be deducted any bonus it earned such as crit chance, attack damage, and all other effects that are associated with that effect (for instance, a higher healing over time or the speed of reloading). The player will be able to use their weapon or armor after the failure.

When an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied from the lowest to highest. This means that when a weapon is upgraded, if it receives a crit chance boost, the increase will be applied prior to any damage from attacks increases. A new attribute called Slots has been added to the definition of the item and the value is recomputed each time an upgrade is applied.

The amount of resources required to upgrade an item is based on the rarity rating and the number of upgrade slots. The cost of upgrading non-premium equipment is equivalent to its value.
