Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our tests on floors that are bare They're also particularly adept at cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which prevent them from being our top option. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to get stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.

It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also quiet and can be used when you're at work or in school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle however. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a sleek, compact package. Its smart cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also has a self-emptying dustbin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robotic mop and vacuum robot hoover for carpets, though it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is something we haven't seen in other robot vacuums uk vacuum/mop combination.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular look that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky models of the competition. It is one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads on its own).

It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a combination modern sensors, including a restructured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's still quite a noisy unit, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit costly however, not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. If you're willing with a bit more noise and a little more cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best good robot vacuum vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of an array of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and identify obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home according to the amount of dirt they tend to be.

If you own a larger home, it is worth choosing a model that has spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you instruct the robot on which part of your house needs to be cleaned using the app or voice command. A stair mode can be useful if you have a lot furniture. For families that are busy, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be very beneficial.

iRobot RX3

It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance.
