1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've test. They have top-of-the-line motors that can produce up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. And, like other top iRobot models (including the top pick), they use smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans that avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also have a feature called Carpet Boost that increases its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.
Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our first option. For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to become entangled in shoes and socks and can't navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It doesn't also come with a camera to look around corners.
It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and you can use it while you're at work or school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be replaced with a wet one in just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient in taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also features strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.
This top-performing mop and vacuum combo uses advanced sensor technology to dodge obstacles and pet waste and it learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and customize zones using the app that is well-designed. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.
It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a carpeted room to prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm can be utilized to reach under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During tests, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to clean an entire home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It also did a good job cleaning a range of rooms and floors with various flooring types, such as certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it was able to avoid fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.
It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums this feature, which we haven't seen in other best robot vacuum that mops vacuum/mop combos.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
With an elegant circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba rather than the boxy units this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive looking models in our tests. The newest model from iRobot is its most advanced model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).
It's the only robot vacuum/mop to score an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to use. It has a simple mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in mornings prior to work or at night when you're trying to sleep.
It's also somewhat expensive, although it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally capable and more attractive. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and a little more cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its premium competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection however this was not completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also comes with a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the house based on how dirty those areas are.
For larger homes it's worth looking for models with spot or zone cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house using the app or voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. Finally, a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you would think from its price. It is a good vacuum cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using a single pad and a reciprocating movement which is cleaner than the majority of the robot mop cleaners that we've tested. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to create a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency. The app offers a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. It also has the ability to create a spot-clean that intensely cleans a localized area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it is more likely to be caught in low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums we have tested. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
