The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept in removing hair from dogs. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to become stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.
However, it's a good robot vacuum choice for those who want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. It's also very quiet and you can use it while you're at work, or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. And, if you have to change the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of minutes.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean and effective in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features an impressive suction system and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, but it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors that help it avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average compared to other models.
When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to remove and extend its mop. This will help prevent cross contamination. Its flex arm is also ideal to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During testing during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire house, finishing with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a decent cleaning job on various floors and rooms with different flooring types, including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was superb and it was able to avoid fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles cables.
It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the boxy units of the competitors. It's among our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot vacuum reviews we tested that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with an easy mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device that could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you attempt to sleep.
It's also quite expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's very capable, but it will cost you more and create more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner, similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically empty the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and cleans and dries the mop pads.
The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and spot obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection however this was not 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.
Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with the amount of dirt they are.
For bigger homes it's recommended to choose one with spot or zone cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house by using the app or via voice commands. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have lot furniture. For families that are busy, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum that mops vacuum to continue from where it left off could be very useful.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd think from its price. It does a stellar job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a rotating motion which is cleaner than the majority of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tested. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that can be washed.
The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or set up an automatic spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency. The app also gives access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It has an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction, as well as intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, however it is more likely to get caught on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums we've tested.
