The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare, and they are particularly adept in removing hair from dogs. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.
It's still a good deal particularly if your office or home has a lot of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. Additionally, it's quiet and you can use it while you're at work, or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad to a dry one in just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also has strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best automatic vacuum and mop robot vacuum for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors to keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time and ensure cleaner and more efficient cleaning. You can modify the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones through the well-designed app. It has a battery lifespan that is similar to other models.
If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to take off and extend its mops. This can help avoid cross contamination. Its flex arm is perfect for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It did a great cleaning job on a variety of rooms and floors with various kinds of flooring, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it was able to avoid fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles of cables.
It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular design that appears much like a Roomba model than the boxy models from the competition. It's among our most attractive looking robot vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also its smartest. It has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads on its own).
It's the only robotic vacuum/mop to score 100% in our evaluations thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.
As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is easy to use, offering an intuitive mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's a noisy unit that could be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to fall asleep.
It's also a bit expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however it's going to cost you more and make more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that will let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that can be washed.
The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or set up the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas to improve performance. The app also gives access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and underneath furniture better. It is equipped with a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and clever combs for removing pet hair. And you can create a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robot vacuums we've tried. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that can't be used as a bin for emptying.
