The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests of floors with no carpet They are also adept in cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to become stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.

It's still a good value, especially if your office or home has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save some money. It's also extremely quiet and works while you are at work or school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle however. And, if you need to change the mopping pad to a dry one in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient in taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we've not seen on other robot vacuum (other)/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular look that looks much like a Roomba model than the boxy units of the competitors. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also among its most advanced. It comes with advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a combination modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's a noisy unit that could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and a little more cost it's a capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine, similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and refills the water tank, and cleans and dries the mop pads.

The smart robot employs a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time hazard detection but this was not foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner comes with the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also has a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the home based on how dirty those areas tend to be.

If you have a bigger home, you should consider choosing a model that has spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your home must be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. A stair mode can be useful if you own a number of furniture. Also the recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you might expect from its price tag. It is a good vacuum cleaner, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping, which gathers information on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, plan a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance.
