Players can upgrade their weapons and equipment using new accessories. They can also increase its base stats or add additional benefits. To upgrade items, the player must have the item in their inventory, and also access the kiln.

Upgrade components

For instance adding the suffix Glyph would make a Staff wrapping of Minor Vigor a Canthan staff wrapping of Minor Vigor.

In the case of upgrades to gather tools when a player swaps one glyph by another, the old glyph will be returned to the inventory. If you replace any other upgrade component the item will be destroyed, except for inscriptions, which are able to be swapped.

Leveling

Path of Exile's upgrade process differs from previous versions in several fundamental ways. Gear is now broken down into tracks, and items can only be upgraded a specific number of times before they're "leveled out." The cost of upgrading increases with each level, but the materials needed do not.
