Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. They do have some flaws, however, that prevent them from being our first option. For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology, so it's prone to get caught up in shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.

It's still a good value for those whose office or home has a lot of bare floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also quiet and can be used while you're at work or in school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle, however. If you're in need of it, the mopping pad can be swapped for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it quick to clean and effective at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with self-emptying dustbins as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensor technology that can avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to ensure better cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and customize zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxy units, this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive designs in our evaluations. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the only robot automatic vacuum cleaner/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has an easy mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's an eerily noisy device which could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you attempt to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, although it's not as expensive as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally capable and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however, it will cost you more and create more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time but this was not reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with the amount of dirt they tend to be.

It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to create the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

It does a good job vacuuming but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as an emptying bin.
