Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our tests on floors that are bare They're also particularly adept in removing pet hair. They do have some flaws, however, that prevent them from being our top option. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to get stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.
It's still a good deal, especially if your office or home has a lot of unfinished floors and you're looking to save money. Plus, it's very quiet and you can use it while you're at work, or going to school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, using disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on for long and don't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle, however. With a sleek circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba than the competitors' boxy units This mop and robot vacuum is among the most appealing looking in our tests. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot vacuum cleaner reviews we tested that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an intuitive mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in the mornings prior to work or during the night when you are trying to sleep.
It's also a bit costly, but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and a little more cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of advanced features that help you forget your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.
The smart robot employs a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however this was not foolproof in our tests and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.
The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home according to the degree of dirt they are.
If you have a larger home, it is worth choosing a model that has zones or spot cleaning modes. The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or create a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency. The app has a range of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can get to corners and under furniture more easily.
