World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it can increase an item upgrader mod's Mark Level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.

Upgrading gear in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a certain amount.

Item Level

When an item is upgraded, its stats improve in value. This is the sum of all its leveled up benefits (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrading items can be expensive, depending on the upgrader and what type of upgrade you choose to perform. This is due to the fact that many perks have to be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.

It is also used as a gating requirement while queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It can also be used as a gating requirement when waiting for dungeons, scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is capped at an lower level). The average item level can be found in the character sheet.

The level of an item will allow players to compare the strength of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's an indicator of the item's condition and its quality. The level of an item can be used to evaluate items when looking at a vendor's inventory.

On PC, you can check the level of the item by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. The item will be displayed with its full description, including ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are various theories on how the calculation of the item's level is done. One theory suggests that the item level is calculated using an equation that determines how valuable an item's stats really are. It takes into consideration the fact that different perks have different worth and that gems in sockets increase the value of the item overall. This process could result in a calculated value for the item's level, which is usually quite close to the actual Blizzard item level.

However, this is not the only factor which can affect an item's ilvl as the level of the region the item is dropped into can alter the value of its stats, such as by adding an amount to its haste rating or crit rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have a higher ilvl.

Item Stats

Item stats can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game utilizes them in many ways to encourage players to not restrict themselves to a particular weapon and to motivate players to experiment with other weapons. The stat mods of a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then increased by the player's level.

Item upgrades add to that by increasing certain stats of the item. The rarity of an item determines the cost of upgrading. A white or grey Best item upgrade for instance, will only be upgraded one time however, items that has rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.

Another method to alter the stats on an item is through affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and they come in all sizes and shapes. Affixes can be used to give the item extra damage, or give a specific capability to the item (such as reviving the dead or cutting down cooldowns), or make the item unique by giving an additional name to the item.

All affixes can be currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button. This will cost a specific amount in gold and items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, as with other rerolling methods.

In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can select which of the available stats to be kept on an item when it is upgraded. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However every item will contain at least one stat within the same range, unless it's an item that is unique, or an item that has a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could change is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to reroll affixes, or choose which stats to increase. But as with base equipment, this would have to be performed on a per-item basis and the interface for comparing items wouldn't show all possible stats that were gained or lost at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the odds of finding items as well as the properties that appear on loot drops and the strength of those properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade gear earlier in the game. This is particularly beneficial in the early game, because players tend to put defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chance of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading, which increases with each item level and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor and weapons have the default Luck value of 40. These items can be improved with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) to increase the value of 40 luck, or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.

Certain items, like the Hollow-infused weapon can also be crafted to increase the damage dealt by any ability that is able to deal damage by five percent. These items are available from the shop, or they can be made using the correct ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chances of success for an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their item in the event that it does not work.

The success rate of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of successfully upgrading that item upgrade and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limits to how much success rates can be increased and the probability of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%.

The success of an upgrades is also influenced by the luck of the item. Each item has an average success rate of 25 percent and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by five percent.

The item upgrade - you can try here - overlays are rendered above items in the inventory. This may obscure enchantment effects and other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
