It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. 3. IRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy units of the rivals. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that has 100% in our evaluations thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. It's also a bit costly however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing with a bit more noise and some extra cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot mop and vacuum. It has a number of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner, similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum, refills the water tank, and washes and dries mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and detect obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however this was not foolproof in our tests and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum cleaner comes with a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning robot mop and vacuum for different areas of the home according to the amount of dirt they are.

For bigger homes, it's worth opting for models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home via the app or voice commands. If you have furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. Also a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you might think from its price. It has a great vacuuming performance, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad that has a reciprocating motion that is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying base that is washable.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance. The app also grants access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
