As with other top iRobot models (including the top pick) they utilize intelligent mapping technology to create detailed floor plans that avoid common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also come with a feature called carpet boost which boosts the robot vacuum that vacuums and mops's power when it spots the presence of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned quickly.
Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our tests on floors that are bare They're also particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our top option. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.
However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. It's also extremely quiet and can be used while you're at work or in school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're required to, the mopping pad can be changed for one that is wet in just a few minutes.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has strong suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the best automatic vacuum cleaner robot hoover for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.
This highly efficient mop and vacuum combination uses advanced sensor technology to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average compared to other models.
You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when it's in a carpeted area, which helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also ideal for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire house, finishing with 66 percent of its battery left. It also did a great job cleaning a range of rooms and floors with mixed flooring types, including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.
It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically emptys into its base, and also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
With an elegant circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxy units This mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also the most intelligent. It has advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads on its own).
It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and it boasts the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has a simple mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device which could be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you attempt to sleep.
It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and look better. If you're willing to live some more volume and some extra cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should satisfy most people.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically empty the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, as well as washes and dry mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, making it more efficient than its more expensive competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. For families with busy schedules, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be extremely useful.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more intelligent than its price suggests. It vacuums well and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using a single pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to create a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency. The app also provides access to a variety of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and under furniture more easily. It features an impressive 8000 Pascal suction as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. It also has the ability to create a spot-clean that intensely cleans a localized area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
