Item Upgrading Isn t As Tough As You Think

Upgrades can increase the value of armors, weapons and rings. They also increase bonuses like PvE damage and crit chance.

For example a weapon that has the upgrade template that is ending in % will gain 3% attack damage every time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).

Item upgrading costs crests and the current level of the item. The cost increases as the item level rises.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be inserted into armor, weapons, and trinkets to give a stat bonus or extra effect while they're in use. They can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors trading or looting. Some upgrades also have special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into any equipment with a slot for them; the item must have been at a minimum upgraded to blue level to allow a component to be inserted. Upgrade components, unlike other mods, can only be applied only once. They are not able to be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and Enrichments are kind of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and ascending equipment, as in some items that aren't ascended. Infusions and Enrichments can be obtained by salvaging ascended equipment or completing a quest in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade can include a suffix or prefix that alters the name of the equipment to which it is used (for instance "Canthan Armor Insignia' becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase the Mark Level or Rarity of an item upgrader kit, which lets players to create stronger versions of the item using fewer Upgrade crystals than they would need to reach the same level using normal methods.

A boost upgrade can alter the attack or defense characteristics of a weapon or armor. After the player has completed the cutscene and defeated the Crazed Mechanist These upgrades can be created at the Portative Forging Station. They can be dropped by enemies when upgrading other gear or purchasing them in the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals each.

The player can have the maximum of five boost upgrades at one time. Each upgrade increases the likelihood that a higher-level version of the item will appear during the next reset. This gives players an incentive to upgrade their gear, even if they are unsure what will be improved following a reset.

Whether a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process could be costly and there is a substantial chance that the item could become obsolete or even break when it fails. A failed upgrade will ruin Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder as well as the upgraded item level upgrade. This is mitigated by the availability of cash shop items that can double or even eliminate chances of failure, and a few upgrades that give an additional benefit when they are inserted into an item.

Glyphs

Glyphs are upgrade components that can be inserted into special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs boost the effectiveness of all nodes in the area around them, including pre-existing affixes on equipment. Glyphs can be upgraded in numerous ways. We recommend upgrading them as fast as you can to level 15.

In the final game you'll often discover that the best way to improve your gear is by placing Glyphs. They are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded straight to level 15 and provide a large boost to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to climb higher nodes faster.

The majority of upgrades in the game can be replaced however, Glyphs are only the one upgrade component that can be removed and replaced without restrictions. The only exception is legendary equipment, which requires a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and replace.

Each Glyph has a particular range of values it can improve a statistic by, and the value is displayed when you select the Glyph in your inventory. You can choose to replace it with another Glyph with the same rank or a higher rank, which will increase the value of the Glyph.

There are Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of a Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain tools for gathering unlimited use and also through Faction Crypt raids. Each Faction Crypt has the chance of dropping one of the numerous Glyphs and there are some rare glyphs that can be obtained as drops from any of the four Faction Crypts.

Once you have the desired Glyphs You will have to attach them to your equipment. Each Glyph will grant a distinct bonus that will boost the stats of a particular set of nodes that are within a radius of the Glyph. Depending on the Glyph the bonus will be +40 to one of your primary stats or +25 to two of your secondary stats.

Glyphs boost all nodes connected to them, which is why it is recommended to place Glyphs in the most important places on the Graph. This will maximize the impact. Druids for instance should position their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They might be able to place them near their most critical damage nodes.

Leveling

The upgrade system of items allows players to boost the stats of specific items by adding upgraded components. This is known as "upping". Each upgradeable item has an amount that determines its upgraded stats. Upgraded items can be leveled up to a maximum of 385. Each item level requires a different number of components to reach and the costs for upgrading increase as the item gets leveled up.

Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be found in the upgrade tab of a crafting table, or purchased from some NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed results in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used for the upgrading of an item. Once enough points are earned, you will be able to claim your upgrade and receive its additional bonuses.

When a player upgrades a piece of equipment the original item will be replaced with an item that is new. The same armor can be transformed into a weapon or a shield when upgraded. The new item will also have its own set bonus. This can be a downside in that the item could increase in price even if you don't require it.

Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled, provided that the player has enough reroll tokens to do so. The item will be replaced with an entirely new item that is based on a level 1 base and completely different bonuses. This can be beneficial however it shouldn't be done often as it could waste resources.

Some upgrades can be rerolled several times which increases their value and allowing the player to customize their gear. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, since it grants an increase in power if the player continuously enters or exits water. This can be upgraded several times, each time increasing the max roll by 10 points. This item can be extremely useful in PvP battles, since a perfectly rolled version of it can be worth between 20 and 50x its value if it is not upgraded.

Requirements

Item upgrading allows players to increase the quality of their equippable equipment--armor, weapons, and trinkets that are above ilvl 385 by providing the appropriate items and currency to an item upgrader NPC. Upgrades to armor set pieces boost the defense of the base set and upgrades to weapon items increase their base damage and also increase their strength and dexterity.

All items are upgradeable up to five times except for hero equipment, which can be upgraded eight times. Every time you upgrade an object, it has a chance of failing. The failure rate increases when you exceed the maximum number. Failures will cause the item to revert to its initial state, requiring the player to spend more money on materials than they would have to had they stopped upgrading at the maximum number of upgrades.

If an item is not upgraded, the experience bar in its growth bar will reset to zero. The item will also lose any bonuses it earned, such as chances to be crit, attack damage, or other effects (such as a higher healing rate over time, or the speed of reloading). However, the player can still continue to use the weapon or armor after the failure.

When an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied from lowest to the highest. This means that when a weapon is upgraded, if it increases its crit chance it will be applied prior to any damage from attacks increases. A new attribute known as Slots has been added to the item definition and the value is recomputed each time an upgrade is made.

The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item is determined by its rarity rating and the number of upgrade slots. The cost of upgrading non-premium items is equal to the base value of the upgrade. For instance, a typical equipment item could have five upgrades, each costing 25,600 Technology Points and a 4x Quality Improvement Chance--whereas hero grade items will come with an incredibly lower cost for each upgrade.

Premium items could have different upgrade requirements from regular gear. For instance they might require less sowels, but they will require more minerals and orons. Whatever the case, players must visit the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine with each piece of equipment they want to upgrade. Each equipment upgrade will require different amounts of ingredients needed to upgrade, in addition to the costs mentioned above.
