The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot vacuum will clean and vacuum your floors without your involvement. It also leaves clean. Its surprisingly affordable price and features that are high-end (such as dirt detection) are great features.

Examine your robot's brush regularly for tangled debris and hair. Wash them when necessary. Some models can also self-empty the onboard dust bin and place it in a larger bin at the bottom. This reduces the amount fine dust that gets released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. And, like other top iRobot models (including the top choice) they utilize smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans that avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also have Carpet Boost, a feature which boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare They are also adept at cleaning dog hair. However, they do have a few flaws, however, that prevent them from being our first choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to get stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.

Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also very quiet and can be used while you're at work or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle however. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad to a dry one in minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant automatic vacuum cleaner and mop cleaner that can mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as nimble navigation make it easy to clean and effective in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying bin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, but it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combination makes use of advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn your home's layout over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones through the well-designed app. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a carpeted area to prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also ideal for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire home, and it did so with only 66 percent of its battery left. It did a decent cleaning job on a variety of floors and rooms with different flooring types including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically empties into its base, and it supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant circular design that looks like a regular Roomba rather than the boxes this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The newest model from iRobot is its most advanced and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum and mop vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it has an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This could be a concern in the mornings prior to work or at night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's very capable however, it's more expensive and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, and navigates more effectively than some of its premium rivals. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

The autonomous vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home depending on the amount of dirt they tend to be.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose models with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a specific area of your home using the app or voice controls. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. Finally, a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than the price suggests. It is a great job vacuuming, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion that is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, arrange the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app also provides access to a variety of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can reach corners and underneath furniture better. It also has strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for hair of pets. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like adorable eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to be caught by low thresholds and is louder than the other top robotic vacuums we've examined. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive and a small base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
