The Roomba j7+ is iRobot's most intelligent robot vacuum to date. Its greatest advancement is an obstacle detection system that uses built-in AI to detect objects like charging cords, shoes, and the pet waste that the majority of other robots cannot avoid (and often go through). It's also the first to automatically send you photos of an object it encounters so you can tell it to stay clear of it in the future.

The Combo J7+ is the most efficient mop robot we've ever tested, removing spills and dirt with ease without leaving any trace that was there. It's simple to control via the iRobot Home app, which allows you to schedule cleaning times and create Keep Out Zones to make sure it doesn't clean areas you don't want it to. It's compatible with Alexa or Google Assistant so you can start it and stop it using voice.

While the iRobot Home app is very easy to use, we've found it to be less reliable than other apps that utilize robotic cleaners. It can take a while to download updates and it's sometimes difficult to know whether they're functioning until you actually witness them in action.

2. Roborock Q5+

When you're looking for a robot vacuum that does more than just clean floors, the best self cleaning vacuum choice is probably hybrid. This category of bots typically has a built-in water tank which means they can vacuum and mop your house simultaneously. These bots also come with many additional features such as smart mapping, small object avoidance, and the ability to wash and re-dry mopping pads. They're expensive at retail, but they often are reduced on Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

Roborock makes several of our top robotic vacuums and the Q5+ does not disappoint. It's their most affordable auto-empty model, and while it doesn't have certain features that are found on more expensive models (like no-go zones and multi-story memory) it's still a great option if you're willing to sacrifice a bit to save some hundred dollars.

The Q5+ is notably soft around obstacles like wall legs and table legs which makes it a great option for homes with a lot of furniture. It's also extremely thorough in getting rid of dust bunnies which is a problem which many robot vacuums can really fail. The navigation technology in the Q5+ is excellent as well, with only a few missed corners and along walls.

Like other Roborock devices like the Q5+, the Q5+ can be controlled by a handful of buttons on the device or through the Roborock app. With the app you can start and stop cleaning and schedules, as well as create virtual barriers and no-go zones and adjust your home map or change the labels of rooms.

If you decide to go with the Q5+ model, it comes with a brand new auto vacuum Cleaner-empty dock designed specifically to make this robot easy to maintain. Installing it requires a screwdriver, but once it's installed emptying the bin can be done without difficulty. It features a large LCD screen which is helpful in setting up schedules and changing settings. This feature isn't necessary for most people but it can help easily keep track of the robot's maintenance schedules.

3. Narwal Freo X Ultra

It's a tiny base station that looks beautiful and is able to be concealed when not in use. It can store clean and dirty water, electrolyzes and heats the water (which the majority of other robots require you to do) also emptying the dustbin after vacuuming, and keeps your robot fully charged and clean.

However, the Freo X Ultra has its faults, especially when it comes to navigation. Its laser sensors and LiDAR sensors aren’t as reliable as other robovacs. This means it is prone to getting stuck or get confused in certain corners or rooms of the house. It's not able to navigate stairs as well as competitors, and doesn't come with a dock that allows you to set up a dedicated cleaning zone for carpets that are soft.

While it doesn't offer as much in the way of cleaning options available in its app or as many in-app shortcuts as some other robovacs, the Freo X Ultra is still a top choice for those looking for an all-around great mop and vacuum cleaner that's worth the premium price cost.

If you're looking for a way to save money or aren't averse to the limitations of the robot, there are many other options available. A lot of eufy models are significantly less. The eufy Qrevo Curv, for instance is less expensive and offers the same experience in the app, but with additional features such as stair climbing, a full-function dock, and superior overall performance when vacuuming floors as well as high and low-pile carpets.

Eufy, a Anker company has a proven track record of making robot vacuums that strike a good balance between features, performance and price. The G30 Hybrid offers a powerful cleaning on hard and carpeted flooring, and a mopping function at an affordable price. It's easy to set it up, just snap on one of the side brush and then turn it on. Then plug in your charging dock. The app walks you through a few steps to connect it to your Wi-Fi. After that, the G30 is ready to go. Its design is a little less flashy than some of the rival models, and features sleek black finish and three physical buttons such as Auto Cleaning start/pause, Recharge and Spot Clean (which scrubs a space in an arc for two minutes). You can also connect the G30 to Amazon Alexa or Google Home to do unscheduled cleaning with voice commands.

The way in which the G30 cleans is what sets it apart from other models. It makes use of a built-in map to create an image of immovable objects in its path while retaining what it's cleaned and what it isn't able to access. When it's time to recharge, it will automatically return to its base, and then resumes cleaning from where it left off.

The sleek G30 isn't without faults, though. The iRobot Roomba 675 is more built, incurs lower recurring expenses, charges more quickly and has the same battery life while offering better performance on floors with no carpet and carpets with low pile. It has a larger dust bin, which doesn't require more emptying. It also has border strips that block it from certain areas. The G30 is cheaper and easier to maintain. Its smaller dust container doesn't need emptying as often and it struggles less with bulky material such as cereal.
