1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive counterpart the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums that we have examined. They are equipped with top-of-the-line motors which can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the most powerful model) they employ intelligent mapping to design precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles like furniture legs. The robots also come with Carpet Boost, a feature that increases its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept in cleaning hair from dogs. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.
It's still a great deal for those whose home or office has lots of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also quiet and operates when you're at work or at school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle however. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of minutes.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also has a powerful suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets but it's not as good as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.
This highly efficient mop and vacuum combo makes use of advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste, and it learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.
If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to remove and extend its mops. This can help avoid cross contamination. Its flex arm is ideal to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could clean an entire home and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did an excellent job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms with mixed flooring types, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.
It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically empties into its base, and it supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums this feature, which we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
With an elegant, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' compact models This robot vacuums with mop vacuum and mop combo is one of the most appealing looking in our tests. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads on its own).
It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot vacuum cleaners uk we tested that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's loud, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to sleep.
It's also a bit costly but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to put up with a little more noise and a little more cost this is a capable two-in-one that should satisfy most people.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features that will let you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time however this was not completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.
Its vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house according to the amount of dirt they are.
For larger houses it's recommended to choose models with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your house using the app or voice controls. If you have furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. For families with busy schedules recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be extremely useful.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is more intelligent than the price suggests. It is a great job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion that cleans better than most of the other mop cleaners for robots we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that can be washed.
The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or organize a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance. The app also gives access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It is also able to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. And you can set up a spot clean that scours a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit louder than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also has an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
