However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.
It's still a good value particularly if your office or home has a lot of bare floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also quiet and can be used while you're at work or school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as nimble navigation make it easy to clean and effective in tackling larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying bin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

With a sleek circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxy units This robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive designs in our evaluations. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot vacuum cleaner reviews we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an intuitive mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a problem in the mornings prior to work or in the evening when you're trying to sleep.
It's also quite expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however it's going to cost you more and produce more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and spot obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its competitors with premium features. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time detection of hazards, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house based on how dirty these areas tend to be.
For larger houses, it's worth opting for a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your home by using the app or voice commands. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have large furniture. Finally the recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you would think from its price. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad and a reciprocating motion that cleans better that most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tested. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.
The iRobot application is designed to guide you through a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to set up a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for better performance. The app also provides access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
