Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors and are particularly effective in cleaning pet hair. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to become stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.
However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also extremely quiet and works while you're at work or school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its smart cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean and effective in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has a self-emptying dustbin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.
This highly efficient combination vacuum and mop makes use of advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and set up zones through the well-designed app. It has a battery life that is comparable to other models.
When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to take off and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross contamination. The flex arm is great to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. During tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire home, and it did so with only 66 percent of its battery left. It did a great cleaning job on different rooms and floors with various kinds of flooring, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was superb, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.
It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums it, something we've not seen on other robot vacuums that mop vacuum/mop combos.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
This robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the boxy models from the rivals. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It has advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads autonomously).
It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.
Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's still quite loud that could be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you attempt to sleep.
It's also somewhat expensive, although it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and some extra cost this is a efficient two-in-one device that should please almost everyone.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that will let you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its top rivals. It also has a camera mounted on the front to detect hazards in real-time however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner comes with the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It also has an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the house based on how dirty the areas tend to be.
For bigger homes it's recommended to choose one with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your house using the app or via voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair mode is also useful. For families with busy schedules recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be very beneficial.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. It is a good vacuum cleaner and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad that has an oscillating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying washable base.
The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to organize a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for better performance. The app has a range of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
It can also reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong 8000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. And you can set up a spot cleaning that scours a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble adorable eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, but it is more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums we have examined. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that can't be used as an emptying bin.
