A trinket can be a small, inexpensive piece of jewelry or ornament. The word trinket could be originated from the Old English term trenket which is a reference to "three cornered sail." Trinkets, unlike other equipment, are not reforged. If you have multiple trinket upgrades in your inventory, the highest-valued upgrade will remain and the lower-level upgrade will be overwritten.

Upgrading, also known as upping as it is often referred to, is the process of turning a normal, unique, set or rare item into an elite version of the same item. This is done by purchasing an upgrade for a component through the upgrade menu and then incorporating it into an item that has been upgraded.
This unlocks all stats that were locked behind the base Best item upgrade's requirements, or maxed-out version. These increased stats are what makes the upgraded version of an item more valuable than its base counterpart. The maximum defense rolls and upgrade requirements for each upgraded version can be found in the table below.
There are exceptions to the rule. If an item is not allowed in its usage due to high requirements (whistan's shield, for example is available only to FB sorcs), or has a low base stat but can be increased to a higher level, it will get little use and will only gain value.
