Item upgrading allows players to upgrade their weapons and gear by adding new affixes, boosting the base stats of the item or giving additional benefits. To upgrade items, players must have the item in their inventory, and also access the kiln.

Typically objects that have weak bases (like rings) can be upgraded to a stronger base, while items with strong bases like Eth titans don't change much in their stats after being upgraded.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components can be added to armors, weapons trinkets, weapons, and gathering tools. They provide an attribute bonus, or additional effect, when the equipment is being used. Leveling

The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some important differences from earlier versions.
