For example it is that the DCT is unable to account for cultural and personal differences in communicative behavior. Furthermore, the DCT is susceptible to bias and can cause overgeneralizations. It is essential to analyze it carefully before it is used for research or evaluation.
Despite its limitations the DCT is a useful instrument to study the connection between prosody, information structure, and non-native speakers. Its ability to manipulate social variables relevant to politeness in two or more steps can be a strength. This feature can be used to study the impact of prosody in various cultural contexts.
In the field of linguistics the DCT is now one of the most significant tools for analyzing learners' behaviors in communication. It can be used to study numerous issues, like manner of speaking, turn-taking, and the choices made in lexical use. It can be used to evaluate the phonological difficulty of learners their speech.
Recent research used a DCT as tool to evaluate the refusal skills of EFL students. Participants were given a list of scenarios and asked to choose the appropriate response from the choices provided. The authors found the DCT to be more efficient than other methods of refusal like the use of a questionnaire or video recordings. However, they cautioned that the DCT should be employed with caution and include other types of methods for collecting data.

A recent study has compared DCT responses to requests submitted by students via email versus those gathered from an oral DCT. The results revealed that the DCT encouraged more direct and conventionally indirect request forms and made a less frequent use of hints than email data did.
Metapragmatic Questionnaires (MQs)
This study explored Chinese learners' pragmatic choices when it comes to using Korean through a variety of tools that were tested, including Discourse Completion Tasks (DCTs) as well as metapragmatic questionnaires and Refusal Interviews (RIs). Participants were 46 CLKs with upper-intermediate ability who provided responses to MQs and DCTs. The MQ data were examined to identify the participants' pragmatic choices. The data were classified according to Ishihara's (2010) definition of pragmatic resistance. Then, we compared the selections with their linguistic performance using DCTs in order to determine if they were a sign of resistance to pragmatics. In addition, the interviewees were asked to justify their choice of pragmatic behavior in a specific scenario.
The results of the MQs, DCTs and z-tests were analysed using descriptive statistics and Z tests. The CLKs were found use euphemistic terms such as "sorry" or "thank you". The results of coding are evaluated against the original RI transcripts to determine if they accurately portrayed the underlying behavior.
Refusal Interviews (RIs)
The key issue in research on pragmatics is: Why do some learners refuse to accept native-speaker norms? The participants were comprised of 46 CLKs, 44 CNSs, and 45 KNSs from five Korean universities. They were asked to complete the DCTs in their native language and to complete the MQs either in their L1 or their L2. The results showed that, on average, the CLKs rejected native-speaker pragmatic norms in over 40% of their responses. They did so even though they could create native-like patterns. They also mentioned external factors like relational affordances. For instance, they discussed how their relationships with professors facilitated an easier performance in regards to the intercultural and linguistic norms of their university.
However, the interviewees also expressed concerns about the social pressures and consequences they could face if they flouted their social norms. They were worried that their native friends might perceive them as "foreignersand believe that they are ignorant. This worry was similar to the one expressed by Brown (2013) and Ishihara (2009).
These results suggest that native-speaker pragmatic norms are not the default preference of Korean learners. They could still be useful as a model for official Korean proficiency tests. Future researchers should reconsider the applicability of these tests in various cultural contexts and specific situations. This will help them better understand the effects of different cultural contexts on the classroom behavior and interactions of students in L2. Additionally this will allow educators to develop more effective methodologies for teaching and testing the korea's pragmatics. The interviewees were presented with two scenarios, each involving an imagined interaction with their interactants and were asked to select one of the following strategies to employ when making an inquiry.
