WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. A random extra substat is also added to every upgrade.

The more modernized gear generally has a higher trade value as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or has a high stat variance (like Eth titan weapons). Upgrades are not as important for the latter due to the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item level upgrade upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to Enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the item upgrading level, but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase tools, armor, weapon and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased from item upgraders NPCs for a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will display a preview of an item's next upgrade level, when there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot for the item and the current level of the item level Upgrade. For instance weapons cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Certain upgrades provide discounts on Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount, it can be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currency types.

Upgraders for items can be found at many locations on the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount as well as a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases depending on the amount of items that are being upgraded. It can also be boosted by having players complete some specific achievements or complete quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no upgrader for items available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are available only through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit as well as a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with numerous new features added. After a player has earned an upgrade to a specific level of an item level upgrade for a specific armor slot, upgrading further items to that level will cost less even if they belong to a different gear set.

The amount of Valorstones needed to upgrade is reduced and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is cut too, but it is only available when certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

Players have several choices when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade items. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a crucial component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only available for equipment that is with a certain rank. Each rank has an upgrade path that is different. The simplest and simplest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade can require up to 20 crests, contingent on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by working through tasks at the appropriate level. This could be by doing outdoor activities, or by completing dungeons and raids in all difficulty levels to obtain equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons with heroic difficulty to obtain endgame gear. These crests can be exchanged with an item upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and pathways.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, however it brings some changes to the process of upgrading. When a piece of equipment attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it will no longer require Flightstones. This change is intended to allow players to get their equipment up to the highest level possible on all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another important change is that crests only have one usage and it's crucial to use them wisely. For instance, it's a good idea use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the best gear you have available, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning on making. This is especially true for items like rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character, which will only be able to benefit from the account-wide discount when all of the slots are full of high-quality gear.
