A robot vacuum can keep your floors clean enough to reduce the frequency of hoovering manually. Choose a robot vacuum that is well-trained in navigation, is able to clean stairs and corners and has an enormous bin that needs to be emptying every so often.

There are models that clean and charge themselves This feature could be important for people with pets or children. A majority of the top robot vacuum performers in our tests have excellent obstacle avoidance.

1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO

The i3+ EVO and its sibling, the i3 EVO are the same robots, but they differ in that the i3+ comes with self-emptying features. The i3+ is an excellent option for those who want a fully automated, hands-off automatic cleaning robot experience, but are willing to manually empty the dustbin of the robot when it is full.

Both robots do well picking up surface debris on carpets and hard floors, and they're very adept at getting around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart maps of your home that help the i3+ navigate and clean up efficiently. The i3+ isn't able to have the same obstacle avoidance capabilities as the i7+ or other top-rated robots we tested. It may be stuck on power cords and socks and have trouble moving between different surfaces, like rug and hardwood.

iRobot recommends you clear out areas that the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, which includes getting rid of any clutter or toys it may come across. It's also an excellent idea to keep the bin and filter clean so they aren't clogged by dirt. If the i3+'s internal bin is empty or the battery is low it returns to the docking station, and it automatically empties the dirt into the station's dust bin. Then it continues cleaning where it left off. The i3+ EVO's battery can last for about an hour and a half continuous use. It takes around three hours to fully recharge.

2. iRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the top model in the iRobot flagship line, and it has the most up-to-date features. It has self-charging and self-navigating, but the most important feature is its auto-emptying bin. This eliminates the need for regular maintenance.

The Roomba i7+ can remember up to 10 floor plans and their names using Imprint Smart Mapping, an application that allows it to identify rooms to clean them more efficiently. It also works with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning jobs and direct your robot by voice or via the app.

In our tests, the i7+ was faster and more maneuverable than our second-placed model, the eufy RoboVac G30, and it picked up large pieces of pet hair from all surface types, including carpeting. Its main advantage over the eufy, though, is its self-emptying dustbin that eliminates a major cause of maintenance and reduces the amount of time spent cleaning.

We were also amazed by the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning sessions, move itself around the room and sweep the area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ to these services. After being connected, to give voice commands to the i7+ for example "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options for managing i7+ settings and evaluating performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world full of cordless vacs that feel like minivans or buses, this small Dyson model feels like an old-fashioned sports car. It's powerful enough to replace a stand-up vacuum in a majority of homes, but also small enough to fit on a coffee table or bookcase.

The V10 is powered by a seven-cell, high-energy lithium-ion battery that can provide fade-free power for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filtering system is able to trap allergens and then lets cleaner air into your home. The specially designed head utilizes stiff nylon bristles to drive deep into carpets, and then pick up large particles or fine dust. It has three suction modes that can be adapted to suit the task. It is able to quickly change from handheld to floor vacuum, and vice versa.

This model has an attached dock that charges the Dyson to 100% in 3.5 hours. It also offers an easy access to two attachments as well as an handheld. This is a huge improvement over earlier Dysons models, which take a long time to charge and are a pain to store.

The main issue with the V10 is its limited run time. The claims of its marketing that it has up to 60 minutes of run time are misleading, as CR's testing shows. This is a typical battery-powered cordless vacuum's running time. That's still enough run time to clean most of a home that's average size however, it's not enough to clean every area (though a second run-through usually does the trick). This model has its own advantages, however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than older Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is noticeable superior for carpet floors with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694"

The 694 is a basic robotic vacuum that's a great choice for those who don't have a lot of money to invest in a robot. It was able to remove all kinds of debris and sizes during our testing and often went over the same area multiple times to ensure a thorough clean. Its flat front end helps it to reach into corners and along the edges of walls which is a nice feature.

Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate your home, but it lacks the mapping capability of more advanced models like our top selections such as the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. Because of this, it may get stuck on things like phone cords and furniture that isn't in good condition, and frequently is power-depleted before returning to its home base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in all aspects in that it has fewer components that need regular cleaning and is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, incurs lower recurring costs, comes with more advanced automation capabilities and is more efficient in moving itself. It also has a bigger dustbin and charges quicker.

The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba. It also has physical boundaries strips that can be controlled using the voice assistant on your smartphone. It's also more durable, has a stronger motor, and is more effective on low-pile and bare floors.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a name you see on all sorts of home electronics So it's no surprise that they're also one of the most popular robot vacuum and mop manufacturers. Their Jet Bot AI+ is loaded with cutting-edge onboard intelligence technology for navigation and obstacle avoidance.

The app offers a wide range of options for customizing your robotic cleaner. This includes virtual barriers, mopping levels and behavior adjustments docking frequency settings, and more. The app is simple to learn and use as are other Samsung devices.

In our testing our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors and dealt with dog hair (on carpet) quite well, clearing up 86 percent of it. It didn't do very well in avoiding taller objects like socks or cords. This was disappointing. It's also a bit more expensive than some of the other models we tested, which might be a deterrent for some shoppers.

The app allows you to access the camera onboard of the smart vacuum. You can also set up live streaming from the robot's cleaning zone. This feature allows you to keep track of your pets or the kids if you're away from home. The filter and dustbin are washable for quick, easy cleanup. The Jet Bot AI+ comes with self-emptying clean stations, which helps keep the best robot hoover's bin clear and improves suction power.

The HRV 425BL, however, continued to move across the border without registering the edge. The ability to program a daily cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving advantage.
