What Freud Can Teach Us About Item Upgrade
WoW Upgrades - The Item level upgrade Upgrader
Upgrades can give you boosts in certain statistics. Each upgrade increases item level by 3. Each upgrade also boosts a random substat.
Upgraded gear generally sees higher trade value, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or has a high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less useful for those with higher variance because of the requirement to roll an exact version.
Recycle Points
The item upgrader kit upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. However, the item used to upgrade item will be consumed for the duration of time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.
The upgrader can be found in all major cities and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your gear. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader at least once every few weeks to keep your equipment up-to-date.
The cost of upgrades will depend on the current level of the item being upgraded however, they will always be less expensive than purchasing new gear from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are functional items that are used to improve the quality of weapons tools, armor, and other items. They can be bought by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any tool, weapon or armor. The button will display the item's next level of upgrade, if there are enough materials.
Upgrade costs vary depending on the item slot, and the current item level. For instance weapons cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with some upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of Flightstones or crests used. After an item level upgrade has been upgraded to a certain level, it can be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currencies.
Many locations offer item upgraders, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon and a possibility of getting a new recipe. The discount on upgrades increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players complete certain achievements or quests.
Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades require various methods that are both an improvement and a drawback.
In Season 3, a number of new features were added to the upgrade system. Once an upgrade has been completed to a certain level of item for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level will cost less. This applies even if the items are from an entirely different set of gear.
The amount of Valorstones required for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is available across all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players have reached certain milestones in their achievements.
Crests
Players have a number of options when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.
The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be used to purchase equipment of a particular rank, and each rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and simplest upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the most complicated can require as much as 20 crests depending on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.
Players can earn crests by completing tasks at the appropriate level. This could mean doing outdoor activities, or by taking on dungeons and raids of all difficulties to get lower-tier gear or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons with heroic difficulty to obtain endgame gear. The crests can then be exchanged with an item upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and paths.
Utilizing these new currencies isn't too complicated, but the system introduces some modifications to the upgrade process. Once a piece of gear attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it no longer requires Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.
It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they have only one purpose. For instance, it's a good idea to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests with the best equipment available, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan to make. This is particularly applicable to items like rings and trinkets that occupy multiple slots. The discount on the account will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
