The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention, and will leave your floors spotless. Its price is affordable and its high-end features (such as dirt detectors) are both positives.

Be sure to regularly inspect your robot's brushes for tangled hair and large debris and clean them as required. Some models will also empty the onboard dustbin and deposit it in a larger bin located at the base. This can reduce the amount of fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. As with other premium iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they employ smart mapping technology to design precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also have carpet boost, a feature which boosts the robot's power when it sees the presence of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned up quickly.

Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective at cleaning pet hair. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our top option. For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.

It's still a good value, especially if your home or office has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save some money. It's also quiet and works while you're at work or at school. The only thing it's missing that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad to a dry one in minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as quick navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles, like pet hair. It also comes with a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, but it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This top-performing mop and vacuum combo uses advanced sensor technology to dodge obstacles and pet waste and it will learn your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can modify the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones through the well-designed app. It has a battery life that is comparable to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to remove and extend its mops. This can help avoid cross contamination. Its flex arm is perfect to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot cleaner vacuum/mop to sweep the entire house, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It also did a good job cleaning a range of rooms and floors with mixed flooring types, including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds and cables.

It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically emptys into its base, and also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen on other robotic cleaner and mop vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy models of the rivals. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuum with mop vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering a simple mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's still quite loud that could be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you try to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, but it's not as expensive as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and better-looking. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's very capable however, it's more expensive and produce more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot cleaner with mop mop and vacuum. It has a range of advanced features that help you forget your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes the care of vacuuming and mopping, with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and spot obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home depending on how dirty they are.

For bigger homes, it's worth opting for a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house using the app or voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. Finally the recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you'd expect from its price tag. It does a stellar job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion, which is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tried. It's self-sufficient too, with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, set up an area for cleaning or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app also gives access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. And you can set up a spot clean that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute little eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to get caught on low thresholds and is more noisy than the other top robotic vacuums we've examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as an emptying bin.
