WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boosts in specific statistics. Each upgrade increases the level of the Item Level upgrade by +3. A random additional substat is also added to every upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more useful, unless the item upgrade has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are less important for the latter due to the need to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrading upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of weapon or armor. However, the item upgrader mod used for the upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and can't be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the item level, but they will always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment. For example upgrading a Benthic chest piece to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items that are used to level up weapons, tools, armor, and other accessories. They can be purchased by players from item upgraders NPCs for various currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any weapon, tool or armor. The button will display the preview of an item's next upgrade level when there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot of the item and the current level of the item. For instance weapons cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of the Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain level, it can be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currency types.

Many locations have upgraders for their items which include the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and the chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no upgrader for items available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades require several methods which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with several new features added. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a specific level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading further items to that same item level will be less expensive, even if they belong to a different gear set.

The discount is available to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is reduced as well, but is only available when certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a variety of choices. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests are only able to be used on gear of a specific rank, and each rank has its own requirements for its upgrade path. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade requires up to 20 crests, depending on the type or equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by working through tasks at the appropriate level. This could be done by engaging in outdoor activities or completing dungeons and raids in any difficulty to earn lower-tier gear or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons with heroic difficulty for gear in the endgame. These crests are then exchanged with an upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item upgrade in the proper steps and routes.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, but it will bring some modifications to the upgrade process. Once a piece of gear attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This is to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests with care, since they only have one use. It is recommended to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the best gear you can locate and save Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly true for items such as trinkets and rings that fill several slots. The account-wide discount will only apply when all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
