WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you an increase in certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.

Upgraded gear generally sees higher trade value, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or a very high stat variance (like Eth titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used to upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current it is recommended you visit the upgrader each few weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item upgrading, but they will always be cheaper than buying new gear. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade item has been purchased, it can be used on any weapon or tool with a button, which will display an image of the item at its next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot for the item and the current level of the item. For example, weapons will cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Many locations offer item upgraders which include the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and a possibility of getting the latest recipe. The upgrade discount increases with the number of items that are being upgraded. It can also be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are only accessible via a variety of ways. This is both a benefit as well as a drawback.

In Season 3, a number of new features were added to the upgrade system. After the player has upgraded to a specific level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This is even if the items are from an entirely different set of equipment.

The discount is available to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players have reached certain milestones in their achievement.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a few options. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item level upgrade [read more] level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests can only be spent on equipment of a particular rank, and every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, depending on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by working through tasks at the appropriate level. This could mean engaging in outdoor activities or doing dungeons or raids in all difficulty levels to obtain lower-tier gear or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons with heroic difficulty for endgame gear. Crests can be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, however it does bring some changes to the process of upgrading. For example, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible on all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests in a wise manner, as they only have one use. For instance, it's a good idea to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests with the best gear you have available and save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning on making. This is particularly relevant for trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character, that will be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount if all slots are filled with top-quality gear.
