They also come with a feature called carpet boost that boosts the robot's performance when it detects the presence of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned up quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on bare floors They are also adept in cleaning hair from dogs. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our first choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology, so it's prone to get caught up in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.
However, it's a good choice to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. It's also extremely quiet and can be used while you are at work or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient in taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also has self-emptying dustbins, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time and ensure more efficient cleaning. If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to remove and extend its mop. This will help prevent cross-contamination. It did a decent cleaning job on a variety of floors and rooms with different flooring types, including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was top notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.
It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that appears much like a Roomba model than the boxy models from the competition. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).
It's the only robot vacuum/mop to score an exemplary 10/10 in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.
Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work or in the evening when you are trying to sleep.
It's also a bit costly however, not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however, it will cost you more and produce more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum and mop. It has a range of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time, though this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.
Its vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home depending on the amount of dirt they are.
If you have a bigger home, it's worth selecting a robot that comes with zones or spot cleaning modes. This lets you inform the robot of which area of your home must be cleaned with the help of an app or voice command. A stair mode can be useful if you own a number of furniture. For families with busy schedules, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be extremely useful.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you'd expect from its price tag. It's a pro at vacuuming, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad and a reciprocating movement which is cleaner than the majority of the robot mop cleaners that we've tested. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying base that is washable.
The iRobot application is designed to guide you through a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to create the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans an area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute little eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, but it's more likely to be caught on low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums that we've test. It also has an app that's not as intuitive and a small base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
