World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Upgrades to items can be used to increase the stats of a particular item. Depending on the type of upgrade you choose, it may increase the rarity of an item upgrading, or its Mark Level and boost additional stats.

Upgrading gear in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a specific amount.

Item Level

When an item is upgraded, its basic stats are increased in value. The value is the sum of all the upgraded benefits (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades to items can be costly depending on the upgrader you choose and the type of upgrade you choose to make. This is due to the fact that many perks must be replaced to allow the item to be upgraded.

It can also be used as a gating requirement while waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It also serves to limit the amount of PvP gear players can use, since PvP is limited at a lower level. Players can see their average level of item on their character sheet.

Utilizing the level of an item can help players evaluate the potency of gear when they decide to buy or sell. It's a useful indicator of an item's quality and how much damage it will be capable of dealing with. The level of an item can be used to evaluate items when evaluating a vendor's inventory.

The level of the item can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the full description of the item, including its ilvl. It is also accessible by hovering an item with the mouse cursor, and then entering /itemlevel into chat.

There are several theories on how the item level calculation is made. One theory is that the level is a number that comes from a formula that determines how much an item's stats are worth. It takes into consideration the fact that different perks have different worth and gems in sockets increase the overall value of the item. This process could result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl which is usually quite close to the actual Blizzard level of the item.

However, this isn't the only factor which can affect an item's ilvl as the level of the area the item was dropped in could alter the value of its stats, such as by adding an additional level to its haste or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more ilvl than those from lower-level instances.

Item Stats

Item stats can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game uses them in various ways to encourage players not to restrict themselves to a particular weapon and to motivate players to explore other weapons. The stat modifications of a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by a player's level.

Upgrades to an item can increase the stats of an item. The rarity of an item determines its cost of upgrading. An item that is white or grey for instance, will only be upgraded once and items that has rare tiers can be upgraded several times at more expensive costs.

Affixes are another way to change an item's stats. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item. Affixes can provide the item additional damage, or add a unique ability to the item (such as reviving the dead or reducing cooldowns) or make the item unique by putting an additional name to the item.

Currently, all affixes can be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button using the arrows that circle. This process will cost the player a specific amount of gold and items, which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same way as other options for rerolling.

Players can choose to upgrade an item by a specific stat or reroll the affixes. The possible ranges of stats for an item are based on the level of the item, however every item is guaranteed to have at least one stat within the specified range, unless it is a unique item or a God roll from a boss of a raid.

Another thing that could be changed is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to reroll the attachments, or pick which stats to enhance. As with the base equipment, this would have to be done per item and the interface for item comparison wouldn't display all possible stats simultaneously.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the odds of finding items as well as the properties that appear on loot drops and the intensity of these properties. It doesn't, however directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to acquire better equipment in earlier waves and is thus more beneficial in the initial game run than later ones as most players prioritize higher weapon scaling and defenses over the raw damage gain.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chances of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading, which increases with each level and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons can be created or spawned using the Luck property, with an initial value of 40. These items can then be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to give +40 Luck or to boost the luck of an item up to 140.

Furthermore, certain items, like the Hollow infused weapon can be used to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items are available in the shop or crafted with the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent them from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful.

When you upgrade an item, the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading that item, and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limits to how much success rates can be increased and the chance of an upgrade item failing can't exceed 100%.

The success of an upgrade is also affected by the luck of the item. All items have an overall success rate of 25 percent and each item with Luck increases this chance by 5%.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the inventory items therefore enchantment glints and other effects could be obscured by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item upgrader (gpsites.stream) CORE client config.
