For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to get caught up in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.
However, it's a good choice to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. It's also quiet and works while you're at work or school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has strong suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors in terms of deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensor technology that can stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.
When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to take off and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is ideal for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. This is something we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
The robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy models from the rivals. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also its smartest. It has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).
It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot vacuum with mop we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.
The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This could be a problem in the mornings prior to work or at night when you are trying to fall asleep.
It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and look better. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's very capable however, it's going to cost you more and produce more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features that let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine, similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically empty the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and washes and drys mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floorplans and identify obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

It's good at vacuuming, but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is more noisy than the other top robot hoover and mop vacuums we've examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
