The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can clean and mop without requiring your attention, and it will leave your floors spotless. Its affordable price and high-end features (such as a dirt detectors) are a plus.

Examine your robot's brush regularly for tangled debris as well as hair. Clean them as needed. Certain models also automatically empty the onboard dustbin and deposit it in a larger bin located at the base. This reduces the amount fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have examined. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can produce up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. As with other top iRobot models (including the top choice) they employ intelligent mapping technology to create precise floor plans and eliminate common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also come with the feature of Carpet Boost that increases its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept at cleaning robot mop and vacuum dog hair. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's thus susceptible to become stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.

It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also extremely quiet and can be used when you're at work or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't stay on for long and don't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle however. If you're required to, the mopping pad can be replaced with one that is wet in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish auto vacuum and mop cleaner that can sweep floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, but it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors that help it avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to provide cleaner and more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average in comparison to other models.

It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when in a carpeted area which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could sweep the entire house, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It also did an excellent job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms that had mixed flooring types, including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was superb and it was able to avoid fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy models from the competition. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device that could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you try to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. If you're willing with a bit more noise and some extra cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot vacuums uk uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning robot mop and vacuum for different areas of the home according to how dirty they tend to be.

For larger homes it's worth looking for a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a specific area of your home using the app or via voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you own a number of furniture. Additionally the recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuums that mop vacuum take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you would expect from its price tag. It vacuums well, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad and a reciprocating motion that cleans better that most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tried. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, plan an area for cleaning or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to improve performance. The app also gives access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has strong 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, but it is more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums we have tested. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
