1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums that we have tested. They feature motors that are top-of-the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the most powerful model) they utilize intelligent mapping to design precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots also have Carpet Boost, a feature that increases its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.
Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our bare floor tests and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our top option. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.
However, it's a good choice to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and can be used while you're at work, or going to school. The only thing it lacks that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. If you want to change the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning robot mop and vacuum maps make it easy to clean and efficient at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.
This highly efficient mop and vacuum combination utilizes advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste, and it learns your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. You can modify the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones with the well-designed app. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.
When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to remove and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire home, and it did so with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a great cleaning job on different flooring and rooms with different flooring types including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was top notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.
It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically fills up its base, and supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
With a sleek circular design that appears like a regular Roomba than the competition's compact models This robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive looking models in our reviews. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads on its own).
It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has an easy mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work or in the evening when you're trying to fall asleep.
It's also a bit costly, but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to put up some more volume and some extra cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should delight most.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features to help you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.
The smart robot vacuum cleaners reviews employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.
Its vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also comes with an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house based on how dirty the areas tend to be.
For larger houses, it's worth opting for one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one particular area of your home using the app or via voice commands. If you have furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. For families with busy schedules, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be very beneficial.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you might expect from its price tag. It does a stellar job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tried. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying washable base.
The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance. The app also provides access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it is able to reach corners and under furniture more easily. It also has strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot cleaning that intensely cleans a localized area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robotic vacuums we've examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
