WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by +3. A random additional substat is also increased with each upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless it has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade item their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any kind of armor or weapons. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks, to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.

The cost of upgrading will vary based on the current item level of the item being upgraded but they will always be cheaper than buying new gear from other sources. For example, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points purchasing a similar piece from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for tools, armor, weapon and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players from item upgrader kit upgrader NPCs in exchange for different currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor using the help of button, which displays a preview of the item when it is upgraded in the event that the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot of the item and the current item upgrade level. For instance, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currency types.

Upgraders for items are available in a variety of locations on the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and a chance to obtain an entirely new recipe. The upgrade discount increases according to the number of items that are being upgraded. It is also possible to be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no upgrader for items available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades are acquired via various methods which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, several new features have been added to the upgrade system. After a player has upgraded to a certain level of item for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This is even if the items are from a different set of equipment.

The discount applies to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players achieve certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a few choices. Flightstones are an Item level upgrade that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests are only able to be used to purchase gear of a specific rank, and that every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the more complex one may require as many as 20 crests based on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing content of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of all difficulty for items of higher tier, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons to obtain endgame gear. These crests can then be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, but it brings some changes to the upgrade process. For instance, when an item reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change lets players upgrade their gear to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests wisely, as they are only used for one purpose. For instance, it's Best item upgrade to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the top equipment you have, and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning to create. This is especially relevant for rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character that will be able to benefit from the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are filled with top-quality gear.
