It's among our most attractive robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is among the most intelligent and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored a perfect 10 in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot vacuums with mop we tested that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to create an automatic spot-clean. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for better performance. The app also provides access to many features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
