The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on bare floors, and they are particularly adept at cleaning hair from dogs. There are some issues however, which hinder them from being our top option. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's therefore prone to get stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.
It's still a great deal for those whose office or home has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save some money. Plus, it's very quiet and can work while you're at work, or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. And it's less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you're required to clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for a wet one in minutes.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and effective at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also has a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors that help it stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to provide cleaner and more efficient cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.
You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a carpeted room, which helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm is great for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete an entire home, and it did so with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a great cleaning job on various floors and rooms with different flooring types, including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was superb, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.
It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically fills up its base, and supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums this feature, which hasn't been seen in other robot automatic vacuum cleaner/mop combos.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
The robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky models from the competition. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).
It's also the only robot vacuum that mops vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot vacuum that mops we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.
The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with a simple mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work, or in the evening when you're trying to fall asleep.
It's also a bit expensive, although it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. This is a dual-purpose vacuum mop cleaner robot that is very efficient however, it will cost you more and produce more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that let you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, though this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.
Its vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the house based on how dirty the areas are.
For larger houses it's recommended to choose models with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house via the app or voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. Also the recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is great for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you'd expect from its price tag. It is a good vacuum cleaner, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tried. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.
The iRobot application is designed to guide you through the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, plan a spot clean or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance. The app also provides access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is louder than the other top robot vacuums we've tried. It also has an app that is less intuitive, and a smaller base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.
