1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They have motors that are top-of-the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the top model), they use intelligent mapping to design precise floorplans that avoid obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also come with carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it sees a lot of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned up quickly.
Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our tests on floors that are bare They're also particularly adept at cleaning pet hair. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. Also, it doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of a room.
It's still a good value, especially if your office or home has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save some money. Plus, it's very quiet and you can use it while you're at work or at school. The only thing it lacks that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be changed for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of minutes.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as nimble navigation make it easy to clean and effective in dealing with larger particles, like pet hair. It also has a powerful suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best automatic vacuum and mop robot hoover for carpets, though it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.
This high-performing mop and vacuum combo uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and customize zones through the well-designed app. It has a battery life that is similar to other models.
If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to remove and extend its mops. This can help avoid cross contamination. The flex arm is ideal to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could complete the task of cleaning a whole home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It did a great cleaning job on various rooms and floors with various flooring types, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was superb and it was able to avoid fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.
It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen before on other robot vacuum/mop combination.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the boxy models of the competition. It's among our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).
It's the only robotic cleaner and mop vacuum/mop to score an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has an intuitive mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in the mornings prior to work or during the night when you are trying to fall asleep.
It's also quite expensive however, not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. If you're willing to put up with a little more noise and some additional cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will delight most.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features to help you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart best robot hoover uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, making it more efficient than its top rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.
Its vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house based on how dirty these areas tend to be.
For larger houses, it's worth opting for one with spot or zone cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home via the app or via voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. Also a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more sophisticated than the price suggests. It vacuums well and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad and a rotating motion which is cleaner than the majority mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to create an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency. The app offers a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. You can also create a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit louder than the other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has an app that's less intuitive and has a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
